Wales’ first Master Rugby league squad announced

March saw the announcement of the first Wales Masters Rugby League squad since its original formation in 1995 with Rugby League first being played in in Wales in 1907. In 2005 WRL received full governing status and was recognised collectively by the Rugby Football League, the British Amateur Rugby League Association and the Welsh Sports Council.

On Saturday 16th May, Wales Rugby League (WRL) will participate in their first ever Wales Masters International, part of a Tri-Nations Day held in Bethesda, Bangor.

Martyn Williams, Pinnacle’s Group Technical Director and Qualified Welsh Rugby League Coach, joined the master’s team at Cardiff Blue Dragons in 2018, playing at an array of events to raise money for local charities. This led on to the team playing their first away tournament in Southampton, as well as competing against the North Wales Masters team.

2020 brings an exciting time for the team, travelling to Ireland to play the North and South teams. Martyn comments “   The Welsh Masters finishes off the complete Rugby Pathway for the Wales Rugby League squad, with 16’s, 19’s, Seniors in both Men and Ladies and now the over 35’s. This allows us old wrinkles to still play the game and be a part of a social squad of likeminded players.”

Pinnacle are delighted to support Martyn and his involvement not just with WRL but also with the Junior Rugby League team at Cardiff Blue Dragons and wish the entire squad the best of luck for their first Masters International tournament on 16th May.
